Macgillycuddy's Reeks and The Ring of Kerry

We are off again after three glorious days in Dingle. Our main plan was to drive the famous Ring of Kerry but we also decided we couldn’t pass up the possibility of driving through Macgillycuddy's Reeks - a mountain range running down the middle of the peninsula. With a combination of maps, GPS and Gaelic road signs, we found a side road leading to the Gap of Dunloe which was the pass we hoped would take us through the mountains.
It did! Beautiful scenery, the narrowest road yet and no traffic - only sheep to keep us company, it was great!
We then joined the ring of Kerry route having decided to travel clockwise which would keep us on the view side of the road. It also meant running into lots of coaches who travel counterclockwise. We counted 37 which confirmed that tourists are still coming even at this time of the year. It was overcast all day so blues of the sky and ocean were more grey but the scenery is dramatic.
Macgillycuddy's Reeks in distance. Some of the highest mountains in Ireland

Reeks is Gaelic for stacks - you can vaguely see the reason

Very faint rainbow over the water

Beautiful range of colours
